There the retainers sat, on the counter in the bathroom innocently waiting to be put away.
It was a bright and sunny day, and it wouldn't be long before my family staying in the hotel left to drive back home from Rhode Island. All of sudden, a gasp was heard as my mother stared at her Ipad in disbelief. The research she had done had finally confirmed her suspicions about the hotel we were in. It was the number one most haunted hotel in America! Shocked by the news, we immediately sought to explore this "haunted hotel" to see what mysteries could lie inside it.
My parents scrambled to collect our belongings before we went on our mission, failing to notice the clear retainer set that had been sitting on the counter. No sooner than 10 minutes, we were out of the hotel room searching every open room in the hotel. This included the floors that were not accessible by elevator and had to be taken by stairs. We found no mysterious evidence that day, but had a wonderful time exploring and anticipating what haunted thing we might encounter.
It wasn't until we were half way home when I asked for my retainer so I could finally return it to its case. All it took was an exchange of looks from my parents and I realized the retainers had failed to be packed, and were most likely still in the haunted hotel. It was an unfortunate event, but was also a day I shall never forget.

I lost my retainer about three weeks ago when I slept over my friends' house. I brought the retainer with intention of wearing it to sleep, but I didn’t bring the case. I wore the retainer in my mouth. When we ate dinner I took the retainer out and put it in a napkin. Someone threw the napkin out after dinner thinking it was garbage. I searched the garbage for about 20 minutes then finally gave up. Long story short I’m not going to be putting my retainer in a napkin anymore.

Ever see a teen hide their smile or their laughter because they are self-conscious about their teeth?
Let’s face it – being a teenager can be tough.  Peer pressure to look and act a certain way, worries about academic performance, and the classic adolescent process of finding out who you are can make even the most confident teenager feel rattled.  Teens who grow up surrounded by celebrity culture recognize the power of having a great smile, but they may be reluctant to wear braces.  For them, the answer might be Invisalign Teen.  The clear aligners allow the teeth to move into place, and the teen doesn’t worry as much about their appearance and any comments from their peers.  There is less worry about mouth injuries when playing sports, having to restrict their diet or be anxious about wearing braces.

Gellerman Orthodontics helps teenagers get the spectacular smiles they deserve, minus the anxiety.  Find out if the Invisalign Teen treatment is right for your teen by calling our office at 631-427-8444 for a free consultation.

It all started when my dogs and I were at my cousins’ house while my parents were away. We were all down in the basement watching a movie after a party and both dogs were sleeping right next to me.
I decided to put my retainers in because I started to get sleepy. We talked until like 3am and then finally fell asleep. I had the weirdest dream that night, I was riding my horse on the beach and then I hit my face on a tree branch and all of my teeth fell out. I woke up just as I was gathering all of the teeth from in the sand.
When I looked around now that I was up my big dog was still sleeping and the little one was not there any more. Then I realized my retainers had fallen out but only one of them were still on the bed with me. I put the one I found back in its case and went looking for the other one... I look under the bed and a set of beady black
Daschund eyes stared at me with my top retainer in its mouth. I screamed and pulled Duke, my dog out from under the bed but it was too late.
My retainer was a goner and there was no way of saving it. So I threw the mauled piece of expensive plastic into the trash.

We are always on the lookout for innovative orthodontic technology so that we can bring our patients the latest in orthodontic care.  We have recently started using a new bracket system, known as H4 and we are very excited about it.  H4 is a low-friction orthodontic solution that gives us optimal control of tooth movement, with great design that features smoother edges to increase patient comfort.
But like the old song that advises “make new friends and keep the old,” we also keep the tried and true systems that we know are sound practices.  Every patient is different, and this approach gives us the ability to select the exactly right system for each patient, whether it is a new bracket system, a new kind of hidden braces or a traditional product.  Here is how we see it:  the more treatment options we have, the better we may serve our patients.
When it comes to clinical and administrative and systems, we also stay at the forefront.  Whether it is taking a group webinar class before office hours, traveling to educational events out of state or hosting study groups for our peers, we devote a lot of time to learning and training.  We are always trying to improve our services, our skills and ourselves, so that we can serve our clients in the best possible manner.

We are very proud of the level of service we provide, and we always want to do better.  If there is something that our patients want to share with us, we invite you to send us an email at info@drgellerman.com, or stop by the office and share it with us personally.  We are always happy to see you!

It is a crisp, cold morning,  and you are rushing out onto the field, ready for action!  Until you get a thwack on the head and get that sinking feeling - - you forgot to include a custom-fit free mouthguard from Gellerman Orthodontics in your equipment bag!
More than 5 million teeth are knocked out of smiling faces every year because of sports injuries and trauma, and in many cases the injured smile either was not wearing a mouthguard at all, or they were wearing an improperly fitting mouthguard.
Mouthguards protect more than your smile – they protect the head against blows to the jaw that can result in a concussion.  They prevent braces from tearing into soft tissue.  And a mouthguard will protect the jaw from injuries. A properly made, custom-fit mouthguard reduces the incidences of concussions, jaw injuries, and relieve the impact on the mouth in a collision by absorbing and dispersing some of the shock energy.   A custom made mouthguard is comfortable and provides the correct thickness and maximum protection of the teeth.
If you play sports, you need a mouthguard.  It is that simple. We believe that the protection that a custom fit mouthguard provides is so important that we offer FREE custom fit mouthguards to our community
Just call us to schedule a visit – 631-427-8444. We want to see you and your entire team!
The custom fit mouth guard is easy to make and provides better protection than the ones sold in most sporting goods stores.  Using a tray with impression material, a member of our clinical staff takes an alginate impression of the teeth, which is used to make a model that is then crafted into a custom-fit mouth guard.
We want to remind our patients, their parents and their coaches to remember to wear mouth guards and appropriate protective gear when participating in sports and any recreational activities that could lead to getting a facial injury.

Just call us to schedule your team’s visit – 631-427-8444.  One phone call is worth a lifetime of smiles!

We are proud supporters of the Huntington Robotics team and are excited to see the team’s progress.
Season 2015 has just begun, and the team is in the middle of six weeks of intense work and fun as they are building the robot and preparing for a regional competition at Hofstra University.  We have great expectations – last year they won Rookie of the Year Award and the Highest Rookie Seed Award at the School Business Partnerships of Long Island regional competition, and select students traveled to St. Louis to compete at the national levels.
The lessons learned through this program are about the important STEM concepts (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and more: students learn about teamwork, setting deadlines and managing budgets.  We cannot wait to see what they will come up with for this season!  Learn more at their website - http://team5016.com

Losing my retainer was a very interesting experience for me. You, see, one night while I was asleep, it fell out. When I woke up, I saw it right by my bedroom door. I went to go get it, but it started hopping away. I kept following it, I even started running eventually. It went out my front door and down the road. I couldn't catch up to it as hard as I tried! I chased it from the top of the Empire State building, to Fenway Park in Boston, to Disney World in Florida, all the way to Hollywood! Then, it hopped into the Pacific, and I gave up. That is how I lost my retainer.
